The TMJ (temporomandibular joint) connects your lower jaw to your skull, enabling essential movements like chewing, swallowing, and talking. When dysfunction occurs in the jaw muscles, cartilage, or tooth alignment, it can cause jaw, face, head, and neck pain, along with clicking or popping sounds, difficulty opening your mouth, jaw locking, and even ear pain or ringing.
Common causes include teeth clenching or grinding, osteoarthritis, and upper neck stiffness often linked to poor posture or neck injuries. Physiotherapy can effectively address TMJ dysfunction through targeted exercises, manual therapy, posture correction, and education, helping restore proper function and alleviate symptoms.
